Fulcro offers new horizons for two former Rover employees

Two young employees, who had completed three years of MG Rover apprenticeships, faced an uncertain future following the company’s demise in 2005. But with the support of S4A, they now have new jobs in engineering and their training has continued uninterrupted.

Fulcro Engineering Services Ltd is a structural services design consultancy set up by Ben Haldin and Sam Jack in 2002. Through 3-D visualisation and other advanced design techniques, the company co-ordinates mechanical and electrical service applications for the construction industry.

Fulcro employed James Weston (25 years) and Neil Nickless (21 years) and with support from S4A helped arrange a final year of day-release at Dudley College to continue their apprenticeships and gain HNC qualifications in manufacturing engineering. The company also ensured that their new employees completed work-based NVQ Level 3 in technical services begun at MG Rover.

Alan Arthur, Programme and Marketing Manager with S4A who worked with Fulcro to facilitate implementing the Manufacturing Offer has continued to work with the company to help strengthen its business development plan.

Ben Haldin, Director, said Alan’s experience and advice was proving to be invaluable in helping them to realise their strategic aspirations.

As well as project management work, James has now taken on the principal health and safety role for Fulcro. He commented: “At MG Rover we thought we had a job for life, but working here has opened new horizons and given me far greater responsibilities.

As an added bonus Ben has been able to obtain a Prince 2 Project Management qualification through a programme run at Solihull College and supported by the Rover Offer.
